Our History

Faith Lutheran was the result of a merger of two churches in 1965. In the pursuing years, we have remodeled the church once and recently, in 1996, added an educational wing.

The Beginnings

Our Savior's

Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran congregation, in Staplehurst, Neb., was the second oldest among Nebraska's congregations belonging to the UELC. It was organized in the year 1877. However, no constitution was adopted until 1882. The Rev. A. M. Andersen was the first Danish Lutheran pastor. He served Dannebrog, Hampton, Ruskin and Staplehurst.

In 1957, Rev. Roger Hoffman began serving as pastor for Our Savior's and St. Paul's Lutheran Churches. St. Paul's was the church Our Savior's eventually merged with in 1965.

St. Paul's

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's Congregation, in rural Milford, Nebraska, came into existence when a group of Christians met in Public School No. 71, on February 9, 1890. The salary of their first pastor was $250 per annum. In 1921, the language problem clamored for a solution. The congregation solved the problem in a more peaceful way than many others. Regular English services were introduced once a month on Sunday evenings. By 1924 the language of the fathers was losing ground and the rising generation was becoming a stranger to it so the congregation arranged to alternate services in German with those in English. Some interesting facts: the first offering was $5.26. It was used for a liturgical book and for coal! In 1940, the Luther League (young people's group) did the electrical wiring on the church and its buildings.
